Telecommunications innovator Vonex Ltd (ASX:VN8) has provided an update on progress towards the launch of the Oper8tor app, indicating that the new product will be more feature rich than originally anticipated.
The app is a disruptive aggregated communications platform which targets the inclusion of conference, voice, message and video functionality, facilitating user communication across a broad swathe of channels.
The new technology is aligned closely with Vonex’s other products and services which span the mobile, Internet, traditional fixed line and hosted PBX and VoIP services where it predominantly targets small to medium enterprises under its own brand.
The company also provides wholesale customers, such as internet service providers, access to the core Vonex PBX and call termination services at wholesale rates via a white label model.
Mobile app improvements
The mobile app aims to seamlessly link all voice calls as well as messaging across multiple platforms and devices.
Vonex has been undertaking third-party application unit testing and load testing over the past three weeks prior to initial launch.
This testing feedback has led to the delivery of several valuable improvements by the company’s technology development team which will optimise the Oper8tor user experience.
These have resulted in more than 30 graphical enhancements and comprehensive codebase upgrades to ensure smooth logins to supported chat platforms.
Vonex has also optimised the application program interface (API) structure to deliver a scalable front-end that is highly functional for users and developers.
More than 120 beta test builds have been successfully passed through Apple and Google Play’s mobile app testing services, incrementally improving the app’s stability.
Vonex extends testing period
The outcomes through this period indicate that further development and testing, beyond that which the company envisaged in the initially contemplated two to three-week window, will be necessary to ensure Oper8tor performs as expected at initial launch.
During the testing period, management also identified the potential to secure additional intellectual property protection for Oper8tor’s unique cross-platform SMS messaging functionality.
To allow Vonex to complete Oper8tor development, testing and fully appraise its IP protection opportunity, the company has decided to extend the testing window by an additional four to six weeks.
This will ensure that Vonex delivers the best possible version of Oper8tor and maximises market impact on launch, which the company will schedule once testing is complete.
Management expects to be in a position to update investors on the new IP protections in the coming weeks.
